Bird watchers should bring binoculars because lower Oak Creek is a riparian habitat for many bird species. Between 60-100 Canadian Geese winter in the fields from November to January and wild ducks frequent the two ponds below the guest house. Springtime brings tanagers and orioles, and robins to feast on ripe mulberries, while quail, cardinals, and finches can be seen year-round. In Summer and Fall, you might spot herons, hawks, owls, as well as kingfishers diving into the ponds. Learn more about bird watching in the Verde Valley here.
Nature Lovers can watch for the occasional fox, raccoon, javelina, beaver, and river otter while on your outdoor adventures. Oak Creek fishing is free from its banks on the property.
The wildlife are attracted to the three waterfalls, two ponds, and the many creek banks on the property.
Animal lovers can enjoy visiting the resident Golden Retrievers and kitties on the grounds. Although theyre adorable and will beg to be invited, theyre not allowed inside the Suites. A stroll around the 12-acre property will take you by pastures filled with grazing horses and cattle.
The Gardens offer brilliant year-round color starting with hundreds of Daffodils and California Poppies in February, then Irises in April, Columbines and Shasta Daisies in May, Roses, Lantana, and Day Lilies in the summer, and finishing up with Mums in November. The flowering fruit trees are beautiful in the spring, and purple Crepe Myrtle blooms all summer. Youll also appreciate the special garden devoted to Arizona wild flowers.
